Solastalgia Pangolin

Pangolin under construction 2025

The Centre for Art and the Political Imaginary (CAPIm), in collaboration with artists Signe Johannessen and Erik Rören, is pleased to offer residency opportunities in Solastalgia Pangolin during May 2026.

Solastalgia Pangolin is a sculpture, a cabin, and a field hospital for the mind on the front lines of climate crisis. It is conceived as a vessel for living and thinking in a changing nature: a structure intended to endure beyond the short-term project economy that so often mirrors and accelerates the very ecological conditions it seeks to address.

Built as a simple hut, Solastalgia Pangolin is made to last. With care and maintenance, it is intended to outlive us all. Designed to be transportable, it will continue its journey wherever it is invited next. Its early itinerary is already taking shape: in summer 2026 it will be presented at OpenArt in Örebro, and in 2025, as a work in progress, it was shown and activated in connection with the conference of the European Society for Environmental History in Uppsala.

Practical information

Location

During May 2026, Solastalgia Pangolin will be located in Mölnbo, within walking distance from Mölnbo commuter train station.

Who can apply

The residency is open to:

  • students and staff at HDK-Valand and KKH

  • researchers connected to the fifteen Swedish Research Council Centres of Excellence

Residency format

Residencies can last from one day up to one week.

Applicants are asked to indicate their preferred dates in May 2026. Places will be allocated as far as possible on a first come, first served basis.

What the residency offers

Solastalgia Pangolin is a simple hut for staying in nature, with basic amenities for sleeping, cooking, reading, thinking, and working. It includes a small library — a “pharmacy for the mind” created by CAPIm researcher Axel Andersson.

The space can host a maximum of two people at a time, but it is generally best suited to a single resident.

Costs and conditions

The residency is free of charge.

Residents are expected to cover their own:

  • travel to and from Mölnbo

  • food

  • any materials they use during the residency

For students from HDK-Valand, travel to and from Solastalgia Pangolin will be covered by CAPIm.

Expectations

Residents are invited to contribute their reflections to the logbooks kept in the library of Solastalgia Pangolin.

At the end of the residency period, a short symposium will be organised, with voluntary participation from residents, either in person or remotely.

Residents are also expected to care for the space during their stay and to ensure that basic safety standards are respected. Each resident shares responsibility for keeping the structure in good condition and for using it in a safe, attentive, and considerate way.

How to apply

Please send a short letter of motivation to contact@capim.se by 10 April 2026.
