About

As part of the CAPIm associated doctoral level Erasmus Blended Intensive Programme on Imagi(ni)ng the Future Shape of Contemporary Art Institutions that is hosted by Universidade Católica Portuguesa, the internationally celebrated artist Kathrin Böhm, author of the Campaign for Economic Fairness, will lead a workshop on arts organisations and community economies. The workshop for students, early-stage researchers, future arts leaders, educators, and cultural practitioners begins with a short historicisation of ideas of autonomy in art and politics, and then proceeds to critically engage with alternative approaches to organising cultural institutions. As part of the workshop, participants will be asked to engage in a practical exercise of mapping an existing art organisation’s economic dependencies and structural model. Building upon these analyses and on examples of alternate models, the workshop attempts to envision new strategies for arts organisations.
