On the role of editorial practices and small-scale presses in artistic research (2025-2027)
Prof. Mick Wilson, Dr. Nick Aikens, and Dr. Michele Masucci
Ongoing
This ongoing strand of enquiry and experimentation engages with the innovative practices that emerge within the space of editorial and publishing work that are informed by and generated from artistic research. The short-term objective of this work is to establish a preliminary descriptive framework and typology of practices and operational concepts in artistic research publishing. The longer-term goal is to build a resource for artistic researchers and practitioners to help support and enable further experimentation.
The first stage of the research process has been to convene an ongoing series of workshops and seminar that address the role of editorial practices and small-scale presses as: (i) dimensions of artistic research; and (ii) as part of self-organisation / “artist-led” culture and the politics (small “p”) of infrastructure. These events also intersect with another research strand looking at organisational imaginaries.
